Holy Fabric, Batman!!!

Yes, it's true.....here in Fort Collins.....is fabric HEAVEN!!!!

Micheal Miller, Amy Butler, Moda, OLIVIA the pig!!! I was so amazed, I didn't buy a single thing! I had Miss E with me - so that makes fabric shopping much harder - plus there are no carts, and no M&M's for bribing with! I will have to go back ;)

So.... stay tuned for new "Limited Edition" dresses - these will be done in limited quantities, and will only be available directly through my sites (sorry wholesale ladies - there just won't be enough wiggle room this time!)

Photoshoot!

Yes - this is what I've been working on for the past few weeks - a photoshoot featuring some of my products. We did the shoot at The Gardens on Spring Creek - if you've never been - you MUST go! It's an awesome place for kids to play (and it's FREE!). A local photographer (with a darling daughter) did the pictures, and while I'm still waiting to see them - based on his previous work I think they will be FANTASTIC!! I can't wait!! My stepmom came with the twins and took some great "behind the scenes" pics. All in all, it was a great time! Thanks to all who helped out - and stay tuned to see the new pics on my Etsy and Hyena Cart sites!!

Crazy Busy!

Things are chugging right along, but I wanted to give everyone a quick heads up - after this week's stocking, my customs are going to be pretty limited through mid-may. There are SO MANY things going on that I can't SEE straight! It's all very exciting stuff - and you should see some fun changes in my shops! But, I need a bit of time to get it done! Not to worry! I will still be sewing and selling, but the wait time might be a tad longer than usual!!

Kimono AND Double Ruffles

Photobucket

Photobucket

It started with the fabric - which reminded me of cherry blossoms - which reminded me of a show horse I owned in a previous life (B.C. - Before Children). From all of that this little number began to take shape! It stocks on my Hyena Cart (link to the left) on Monday - but if you don't snatch it up, I might have to keep it for Ella!!

I'm still home

We decided the 18 hrs in the car would be too much for the kiddos, so I'm staying home and will continue to work on orders! FIL is driving to CA and picking up DH in Las Vegas along the way. DH travels for work - but has to drive, so he tries to share a ride whenever possible - which is great, except when something like this happens! So, FIL left late last night and DH's flight from Phoenix (where he was working) to Vegas is later this AM. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!

Family Emergency

DH's grandfather is in the hospital and will probably not make it through the night - I will try to get everything out before we leave, but if there are some delays, I am SO sorry, and will offer some great discounts to make up for it!

I sew in the closet

Yes - my sewing room is in our master closet ;) Luckily, it's a big closet!

Here is the view from our master bath:

My current setup (this changes from month to month!)

The top left bar are my clothes - the bottom left and right bars are all inventory sweaters! You can just see the corner of the dresser - hubby clothes are in that corner too!

In the guest room - my fabric closet (just bought a BUNCH of new stuff at Joanns that's in the wash!)

Introducing Leah and Hannah

These two new dresses are named after two lovely ladies in my life. Leah was my mom's best friend when I was growing up. Hannah is her daughter. I was present when Hannah was born, and babysat her for several years after. Hannah will be off to college this year - my how time flies!

How to Measure for Wool

I've sometimes found it difficult to explain to my customers exactly how to measure their little ones for wool. So, I decided to take some pictures! It's best to measure over your bulkiest diaper - just to be on the safe side, but here I'm using a pocket.

Step 1 - Find the cutest baby in the house:
Photobucket

Step 2 - Find a measuring tape. If you don't have a tape, you can use a piece of string, and then mark and measure the string!

*You may have to wrestle the baby for the measuring tape!

Photobucket

Step 3: Measure waist above the diaper - a little bit of rounding is just fine - Ella's waist is 18.5"

**If you are looking at pre-made wool - go with a waist 2" shorter than your measurement - when I make custom wool items I use actual measurements, then subtract 2" from the waist!

Photobucket

Step 4: Measure rise, from waist to waist - normally this is the same or close to the waist measurement, but in some kiddos it will be 2-3" different. Ella has an 18" rise (looks like 17.5 here because of the trimmer diaper!)

Photobucket

Step 5: Measure inseam - crotch to ankle. I will add some extra length here for cuffing if I can - but if you're buying on FSOT, or another WAHM, you may want to note the actual, and the extra for cuffs!

*I don't have Ella's inseam measurement because she was throwing a HUGE fit - but it's usually about 11-12"

Photobucket

All Done!! Remember to write down your measurements in case a "mommy moment" strikes between the time you measure, and the time you get to the computer!

And, a special thanks to my extra set of hands - Kaden!

PINK INK!!

Photobucket

I found the BEST cashmere sweater last week! I was SO excited because it has 2 screen printed tattoos on it! The perfect combination of rebel and preppy! I made a pair of shorties, and a soaker. The shorties will be up for auction, and the soaker available for purchase starting Monday 4/6 at 12:00pm EST at www.hyenacart.com/e2designs.

What to do, What to do...

I am always torn between making unique, one of a kind pieces and making pieces that are repeatable in different sizes. In my etsy shop I have several one of a kinds, I also have a listing that features my Ella dress in Alexander Henry's "All Cotton" In my humble opinion, it is a breathtaking dress - I've sold 3 this week, so I think I'm spot on! However, now I'm out of that fabric (not to worry - there's more coming, and in pink too!) Yet, the one of a kinds sit - not because they're not cute, but because they're only available in one size.... but, how do I know if something will sell or sit? How do I figure THAT into my pricing - I can't buy a bolt of every fabric - sometimes I'm wrong, and the fabric is not so cute when I sew it up ;) What to do?

Okay - rant over! I feel better - do you !?!
